Case Study: From average to top 5 in most subjects in less than 3 weeks

This is a short snippet of the story of one of my students, George. I started working with George in 2010 where, in a matter of 3 weeks, he was able to completely transform his grades just by changing one thing in the way that he studied.

He used the 4 Phase Study Plan I recommended to him. That’s it.

If you’d like some more of the juicy details about George’s success, read on.

At first, I was hired to help George out with some maths. He was just about to start his final year of high school and maths tends to get just a little bit tricky at this level. So I rock up at his house, ready to get stuck into showing George how maths is actually not as tricky as he might have thought.

But then…

After chatting with him and getting to know him, we realise that he hasn’t really been taught about how to study properly. His first lot of exams were only 3 weeks away and he didn’t even know how to study effectively for each of his different subjects.

Enter the study plan that completely transformed his grades!

At this point, I didn’t have a nifty ebook created. So, we improvised and drew it out by hand on a scrap piece of paper which he then stuck to the wall above his desk.

I had two more sessions with George before his exams. Again, we did not get a chance to cover any subject-specific content. I didn’t teach him anything new. No maths, business or economics knowledge or any other tutoring for that matter.

Instead, we just looked at how he was going with the plan. We just kept looking at the best ways George could study for the different types of subjects he was taking. We only focused on improving his study skills and his test taking skills.

Lo and behold, when it came time for him to complete his exams, George felt confident that he was ready to tackle the exams. He felt relaxed and prepared – which I think was a huge contributor to his amazing success.

Once his results were released, George was over the moon with joy. Where he was previously earning average results he was now ranked in the top 5 for all but one of his subjects. For the subject he didn’t rank in the top 5, he was ranked 8th instead.

Years later, when I spoke to both George and his mum, they both still remember that scrap piece of paper with my nerdy graph drawn on it and how it had such a phenomenal impact in George’s life.
