How to type notes super fast

Even though I often suggest handwriting your notes as a way to help memorisation, there are gonna be some times when typing them out is not just easier but necessary.

If you’re in class and your teacher is firing info at you at 100/km per hour, typing will be a much better way for you to capture everything they’re saying. Same deal if your an auditory learner and often record yourself reading out notes or thinking out loud about different topics. You can speedily type out these recordings as well and have a stash of physical notes ready to go for when exams roll in.

Here’s the best tip I can offer you to type faster while also actively listening and learning to the content:

 Learn to touch type.

Touch typing will make your fingers super speedy when typing anything out. Since your attention is not needed to focus on the keys, you free up brain space to actively listen to what you’re typing out.

If you’re a creative type of person and often have awesome ideas just pop into your head, you can close your eyes and type them out as the ideas keep rolling in. This is a great technique for creative writing especially.

Keep yourself in that flow and let your fingers work their typing magic. Do not worry about mistakes as you can always fix them up at the end.

The idea is to make typing a habit by building up your fingers’ muscle memory. As with any habit, you will start off slow as the habit is forming. Make no room for mistakes to slip in here as any typos you allow in the learning phase will translate to typos when you’re going at full speed.

Practice to perfection before you speed up and that way you can guarantee yourself that there will be no need to worry about making heaps of mistakes!
